Straight Line Equation Formula

1. The Formula Straight Line Equation through point A(x1, y1) and B(x2, y2)

The formula straight ine equation through point A(x1, y1) and B(x2, y2) is :

Example :
Find the equation of the line through the points (3, -4) and (-2, 6)!

Answer :
x1 = 3
y1 = -4
x2 = -2
y2 = 6


-5(y + 4) = 10 (x - 3)
-5y - 20 = 10x - 30
(-5y - 20)/5 = (10x - 30)/5
-y - 4 = 2x - 6
-y - 4 + 4 = 2x - 6 + 4
-y = 2x - 2 or y = -2x + 2

So the equation of the line through the points (3, -4) and (-2, 6) is -y = 2x - 2 or y = -2x + 2.

2. The Formula Straight Line Equation that has a gradient m and through point A (x1, y1)

The formula straight line equation that has a gradient m and through point A(x1, y1) is:

Example :
Find the straight-line equation 2 and through the point (-3, 1)!

Answer :

So the straight-line equation which is graded 2 and through the point (-3, 1) is y = 2x + 7.
